Welcome to NgREN Identity Federation (NgRENID) — the national identity federation for the Nigerian research and higher education community. For NgREN member institutions to securely and reliably access and share resources (services and content) over the NREN and other data networks in Nigeria and the world over, the NgREN Identity Federation (NgRENID) was established in 2025.

An institution can apply to join (download form) the NgREN Identity Federation (NgRENID) as an Identity Provider (IdP) or a Service Provider (SP).

Only NgREN member institutions can join NgRENID as Identity Providers (IdPs). However, to join NgRENID as a Service Provider (SP), an institution, organization, or company DOES NOT have to first subscribe to NgREN membership.

NgREN Membership is open only to Research and Educational institutions in Nigeria. An Institution that works with research institutions and tertiary education institutions subscribed to NgREN membership can be admitted as an affiliate member, through a vote in their favour, by the NgREN Board of Directors.

Access to resources federated through NgREN is governed by the NgREN Identity Federation Policy. Metadata registration in NgRENID is governed by the NgRENID Metadata Registration Practice Statement.

eduroam

eduroam is an Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI) based on RADIUS or RadSEC. The Technology Profile for eduroam under the NgREN Identity Federation can be accessed here.

SAML WebSSO

The SAML V2.0 Web Browser SSO Profile defines a standard that enables Identity Providers and relying parties to create and use web Single Sign On services using SAML Requirements. The SAML WebSSO Technology Profile for the NgREN Identity Federation (NgRENID) can be accessed here.
